Twitter Update

Hey there! Due to the recent policy changes implemented by Twitter, I regret to inform you that FinBrowser is currently unable to display any new Tweets. I know this might be disappointing, as Twitter is a valuable source of information and updates for many of us. However, I want to assure you that I am actively working on finding alternative solutions and exploring ways to reintegrate Twitter sources into this website. I appreciate your patience and understanding during this time of transition.

How I think about this: What will the cost of solid state be at commercialization? How does that compare to competing chemistries? Seems more likely that solid state gains traction where battery isn't the largest cost component and it enables new capability. Think wearables,…

Jakob Ingebrigtsen just broke the 2-mile WR by 4 seconds with a 7:54.1. 2nd mile was 3:52. Last lap was 55 seconds. That is insane. He's 22. Hicham El Guerrouj has held the mile record -- 3:43.13 -- since 1999. Feels very beatable for Ingebrigtsen.

If F1 doesn't make a killer app for the vision pro then idk who will. The weight of the headset innately simulates neck strain. Cameras track hands on wheel for turning. Fully immersive. @F1

The news today is great for EV adoption in the US. It's also great for using capital efficiently. Funds should be spent on the lowest cost highest performance charging stations. Not wasted on a fractured network that costs more to deploy anyway.

If you're using their supercharging stations as the backbone of the network it seems like it would make sense to adopt some amount of their software. Just an API for availability? Something so your cars can precondition batteries too? Maybe their navigation? Maybe more?

Iridium spent $9 billion (2022 dollars) to launch 66 satellites, signed up 11,000 customers and was bankrupt within a year. SpaceX has spent 1/5th the amount to launch 60x more satellites, and has signed up 140x more customers.

All theories of disruption by MNVOs (a 20+ year old idea) need to start by understanding that 1: they depend on the wholesale deal the carrier chooses to give them and 2: carriers have marginal cost.

Looking at the underlying data it seems like ~75% of the growth from Jan-April 2022 to 2023 for BEVs comes from Tesla, BYD, VW, and GAC. While ~41% of OEMs actually had lower year over year sales in the same time period for BEVs.

Global BEV Adoption is on steady increase. Q1 share is typically slightly below Q4, but in 2023 this trend was broken, this is an encouraging sign for the rest of 2023.
