If it’s not clear I’m referring to Doug Leone and Michael Moritz etc having not just the vision to set up a global Sequoia (that many people did) but actually executing it. That’s leadership & people management at the highest level. Who’s even comes close in this regard?

I don’t think Sequoia US has the kind of obvious edge here that Sequoia China has in China, not sure about India / SEA. And that edge is not borrowed glamour from SV, it’s home grown. It really is amazing what the last generation of Sequoia elders has accomplished. Much respect.

People are arguing over the "AI" in this booth. Agree it's likely extremely limited. However, it is free & functional. Do you have that locally? I don't. BTW this is the latest iteration in a project that's been going on for ten yrs. Hopefully future versions much better.

All the big stars & methods you see today are 6-7 years in the making. But basically if you don't either greatly reward or lightly punish creators for livestreaming, they're just not gonna do it, it's way way harder than making a video.

It wasn't even really optional. You had to livestream or else your regular product rankings would drop. Livestream requires a deeper ecosystem in some ways than traditional ecommerce, so it takes patience to build those capabilities up.

First of all, funding independent livestreaming ecommerce platforms doesn't really make any sense and has been proven extremely difficult within China since ... 2016? It should be one of the subsets of activities on any given entertainment platform.

Despite lots of funding, livestreaming is a dud outside of China. What do you think is the primary reason?

We talked about that in a long-ago livecast interview as part of @techbuzzchina (sorry that was a short-lived series). As for why the bigger platforms haven't done well either, I suspect it has to do with how it was launched. Alibaba etc made it basically mandatory to livestream
