Twitter Update

Hey there! Due to the recent policy changes implemented by Twitter, I regret to inform you that FinBrowser is currently unable to display any new Tweets. I know this might be disappointing, as Twitter is a valuable source of information and updates for many of us. However, I want to assure you that I am actively working on finding alternative solutions and exploring ways to reintegrate Twitter sources into this website. I appreciate your patience and understanding during this time of transition.

Somehow it feels so much better when your portfolio soars when the market is flat(ish) or down, vs when it goes up on days when the market is strong. 🤔

CPI now down to 4%, driven by collapsing fuel oil (-37%) and gasoline (-19.7%) prices. Food still high at 6.7%. Core (excl energy & food) at 5.3% with shelter (+8%) and transportation (+10.2%) standing out.

In 2022, $DIS only had one animated movie, Lightyear, in the top five. Embarrassing! They barely beat a Warner movie. Meanwhile, Universal, with both their animation studios, ruled all three top spots. Can Disney feed their parks without keeping their animated IP hot? 🤔

Fascinating how $DIS has completely abdicated its leadership in animation to Universal & Sony. Super Mario Bros and Across the Spider-verse have killed it. Disney meanwhile keeps releasing emotionally empty, cookie-cutter, uninspired movies. IP moats, huh? Product matters!

This truly encapsulates how stupid the VC world has become. Pizza is one of the most profitable products in the world. Millions are made & sold every day by chains, supermarkets & family restaurants. Yet this “biz” managed to waste/launder $450m in investor cash & go broke. 😒

During the last 4 decades, since 1983, total wages in the US have grown from $1.56 trillion to $9.7 trillion, or 6.2x. Meanwhile the market value of the Wiltshire 5000 index (the broadest US index) has grown 72x, from $590bn in ‘83 to $42.5trn today. What does this tell you? 🧐

Wow: The S&P500 is exactly flat since the Fed started to hike rates. Imagine, we went from 0 to 5%+ rates and equities are… fine. 🥹 We did see a 17% max drawdown last fall… but all of that is now recovered.

@DynamicMoats @FriendlyBearSA A lot of funds don’t know anything else TBH. And still get money despite 60-80%+ drawdowns since the peak. They exist to buy, and buy anything, incl dips, in the space. But, there will also be bargains. Key to understand who has genuinely disrupted, worsening product IMO.

These SAAS earnings were just awful. Massive slowdown in revenues, with poor guide, despite increased and elevated sales & marketing spend. This implies dramatically increased churn or near-zero saleforce efficiency. Yet multiples have exploded upwards… 🤷‍♂️ $AI $CRWD $OKTA $CRM

This is surreal. Luckily for me my house is now rented but when I was living here just a couple of years ago my annual bill was sub £1500. Now pushing £6000. 😰. Will be a big relief to beleaguered UK consumers as it starts to ease from H2. But not a moment too soon.

Funny how every single retailer that reports is interpreted as some kind of a “message” about the consumer & economy, and the whole sector reacts strongly. Fact is, some are well run, others aren’t. Some are improving, others deteriorating. Some are cheap, others expensive. 🤷‍♂️
