Twitter Update

Hey there! Due to the recent policy changes implemented by Twitter, I regret to inform you that FinBrowser is currently unable to display any new Tweets. I know this might be disappointing, as Twitter is a valuable source of information and updates for many of us. However, I want to assure you that I am actively working on finding alternative solutions and exploring ways to reintegrate Twitter sources into this website. I appreciate your patience and understanding during this time of transition.

I often say on calls w/founders that while we have 10yr funds the goal is to one day distribute stock and hold it forever. This is a low probability outcome - and system and incentive structure allows for dumps - but it must be so unsatisfying.

Chris Brown
I increasingly believe there should be a metric for venture funds that accounts for the ongoing public performance of DPI drivers Or, at the very least, a required footnote/disclosure if some percentage of former winners are trading below the price you invested/defunct/etc

Vertical software w/software business models and only a software value prop will be killed by LLMs. A software value prop w/non-SaaS business model, additional value beyond the software, and/or defensible lower-CAC distribution and or will still win.

Will Manidis
vertical software will be killed by LLMs investors love vms because it's cheap to build + great economics (99% retention). but when development cost -> 0, you can build for $10m TAMs instead of $100m ones. "vertical" software to date is just bad software for too big of markets

Every vertical SaaS company should become a GPO. And they should do it with a GPO-as-a-service provider.

Ok, one more - on the road next two weeks so no walk to work thoughts will occur. Didn't proofread (most of my writing time used to be proofreading, what a waste) and I probably used certain words not quite right - but you get the point.

In 2020 I wrote way too much long form content. In 2021, I tweeted. 2022 I wrote (bad) threads. This year (inspired largely by folks at Slow) I am going to share notes that take me <5 minutes to write based on what I think about walking to work. Disclaimer - not proofread.

SaaS metrics provide a very narrow read on valuation and potential ultimate liquidation value. It’s easy to drag the spreadsheet to the right, it’s hard to reach a conclusion on the above in order to price the probable range of outcomes.

What is the SAM, the company’s competitive advantage, and the strength of the team?

Aditya Vempaty 👋🏽
A friend told me some metrics of A series C vertical SaaS company ~$28m ARR 💰With Net retention rate of -3% ⏲️payback period of 6 years 📄ACV of ~$6k Month to month contract What do you think this companies valuation is?

@modic123 Unbundle to rebundle. There was a lot of chatter RE bundling on here for a bit and the reality is that a biz with true competitive advantage will win share. To become "large" I think they eventually rebundle and cycle continues tho. Hard to build moat.

Chirag Modi
One of my thesis right now is that you can build large businesses by unbundling first-generation SaaS platforms that have modules/features with high attach rates but low NPS.

It’s interesting reading case studies of a COST or an AMZN from two decades ago. The interesting take is that all were disliked and misunderstood at the time which presented the opportunity Once a biz is dumped into the “quality” camp it is probably too late

I used to be a huge fan of frameworks - I read every business book out there, took notes, you name it (Roam, Obsidian, etc) And then I realized only one thing matters: doing things. Most people hate doing but they love documenting. And spending hours on it in the name of work.
